Exercise Class for Seniors

It is never too late to maintain fluid movement, muscular strength, & mobility in your joints! Give it a try. . .

Held at SENIOR PROJECTS of Ravena, Wednesdays, 11:15 a.m. - 12 noon, starting every Wednesday in March, $4.00/person per class. Instructor Cheryl Sheridan, Neighborhood Health and Fitness Center

Yoga (Iyengar Style)

Yoga is a science of health and spiritual awareness brought about by a combination of stretching, breathing and relaxation.

It promotes overall well-being and activates the connection between body, mind and spirit. Practice of Yoga postures massages internal organs which stimulates them to function better and stimulates the energy centers (chakras) which renews your energy level and refreshes you. You will feel more centered, think more clearly, increase your awareness and your flexibility.

Step Interval

A fun and challenging class suitable for beginner to intermediate fitness levels.

Class begins with a short 5 to 10 minute warm up followed by an always changing Step workout combined with light hand weights, tubing, bands, and more. Always included is a short cool down followed by abs, stretching.

Cardio Blast

This 90 minute class consists of high-intensity, low-impact bursts of cardio paired with intense strength training using dumbbells and resistance bands.

Your heart will get a great workout as you sculpt and tone all your major muscles. Work towards a stronger, healthier you!

All fitness levels welcome.

Meditation

Has Meditation always been a mystery to you? Don't have the free time or self-discipline to even try it?

Come to this short, ½ hour Meditation session to find out how easy it is and how good it can feel!

Connect to your inner source. Quiet the mind. Find the answers you've been looking for. You will leave this class feeling centered and peaceful and will gain insight and awareness regarding this journey. Bring a pillow or a folded blanket to sit on.

We will do Japa meditation in the style of Wayne Dyer who says: "We are not humans having a Spiritual Experience, we are spirits having a human experience."

Ball and More

Using the ball is a great way to add variety to your workout.

This class will consist of a total body workout and core strength improvement. Ball exercises will be incorporated during the whole class. The ball can be used for support and to add resistance.

The focus of the class will be on teaching the body/mind to initiate movements from the deep center muscles while learning sequential and simultaneous movement patterns.

Pilates

Pilates is a core-conditioning program.

The Pilates class will be taught by learning and practicing the 34 mat exercises, with modifications and variations applied where appropriate. The goal of the class will be to create girdle strength and improve posture by developing muscle control through the abdominal, low back, and buttocks. The exercises are designed to strengthen, lengthen, and coordinate muscle-firing patterns, which in turn can help maintain neutral alignment throughout the body.

Fit and Tone

A resistance training and flexibility class.

A vital part of any fitness or weight loss program is weight training and flexibility. You will begin to firm and tone your body using simple floor exercises, hand weights, rubber bands, exercise balls and more.

Nia

Introducing Nia (Neuromuscular Integrative Action) - Get fit the body's way and try this eclectic, expressive technique of FITNESS FUSION!

Nia combines movements and concepts from Yoga, Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Jazz, Modern Dance and other movement forms. Nia classes offer total-body cardiovascular conditioning and cross-training for many levels of fitness and agility. No prior training is necessary and class is done in bare feet to music.
